Gaga and Mars Rock New Inglewood Arena
The new Intuit Dome in Inglewood, a dazzling $2 billion sports venue, officially opened to the public with a bang. It’s now home to the Los Angeles Clippers, but Thursday night was all about music as two superstars took the stage.
Bruno Mars headlined the inaugural concert, bringing in a full house for a night filled with energy and hits. His band, the Hooligans, backed him as he delivered a powerful two-hour performance that ended with two exciting encores.
In a surprise twist that thrilled the crowd, Lady Gaga joined Mars on stage around 11:30 p.m. for a world premiere of their new song, “Die With a Smile,” which had just been released earlier that evening.
As Gaga sat behind a keyboard, dressed in a striking pink-and-white outfit, Mars introduced her to the audience, building up the excitement as they prepared to hear the new track live for the first time.
This new single was written collaboratively by Mars, Gaga, and others, marking a fresh creative chapter for both artists. It comes after Mars’s Silk Sonic project and Gaga’s work on her instant classic, Chromatica.
After the performance, Gaga thanked the audience with a series of bows before Mars continued with his classic hit, “Uptown Funk,” for the crowd’s final encore.
The concert was a historic event for the Intuit Dome, which includes cutting-edge features like a double-sided scoreboard and spaces for multiple sporting events. It will also serve as a venue for various concerts and community events.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier in the evening, Clippers chairman Steve Ballmer expressed his excitement about the venue. He noted that the journey to build the dome was ambitious and filled with determination.
Although there were some hiccups with the event’s app system, which caused delays for guests entering the facility, the crowd remained lively and engaged throughout the performances. Many stars were also in attendance to enjoy the night’s events.
Intuit Dome is set to bring a slew of exciting events and concerts in the upcoming months, including shows by top artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Usher.
