Geelong Secures Top Four Spot with Dominant Win Over West Coast
Geelong has secured a place in the top four of the ladder after a commanding 93-point victory against West Coast at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Cats demonstrated their dominance early, scoring 18 goals in the first half and extending their lead to 100 points by halftime.
Jeremy Cameron excelled in this match, concluding the game with an equal career high of nine goals. His performance was supported by teammates Jack Bowes, who recorded 24 disposals and 12 score involvements, while Max Holmes and Zach Guthrie also notably contributed with 26 and 24 disposals, respectively.
With a secured spot in the top four, Geelong now waits for the results of the final games involving GWS and Port Adelaide to determine their final ladder position and opponent for the opening week of the Toyota AFL Finals Series.
Ollie Henry and Jeremy Cameron quickly got Geelong on the scoreboard, netting five goals collectively in the first quarter and building a 44-point lead by the end of the first term.
In the second quarter, Geelong maintained their scoring prowess, adding another 10 goals to their total, consequently reaching a remarkable halftime score of 18.6 to 2.2.
This halftime lead marked just the third occasion in AFL history that Geelong has held a similar advantage.
Cameron led the scoring in the first half, netting seven goals, while Tom Atkins, Max Holmes, and Jack Bowes contributed heavily from the midfield.
In what was his last game at GMHBA Stadium, Zach Tuohy energized the crowd with a splendid goal to kickstart the Cats’ scoring in the third quarter.
Each time Cameron kicked his next goal, the Cats extended their lead further; however, West Coast managed to reduce the margin to 84 points at the last break.
<pThe final term saw Cameron attain his ninth goal, followed by Ollie Henry, who also reached a personal milestone with his fourth goal of the match.
The Cats ultimately finished the game with a scoreline of 26.12 (168) to West Coast’s 11.9 (75).
In terms of injuries, Geelong’s Tom Stewart was substituted at halftime due to hamstring tightness. Lawson Humphries also left the game in the second half with a calf concern.
The crowd attendance at GMHBA Stadium for this high-stakes match was recorded at 32,545.
