Genesis, the luxury automaker, has made the decision to postpone the launch of its upcoming all-electric model, opting to introduce a hybrid version instead, according to reports from Korea.

The next-generation BMW X5 rival, known as the Genesis GV80, was initially scheduled for production in the third quarter of 2026. However, this timeline has now been pushed back to late 2027 or early 2028.

To bridge the gap, Genesis is planning to unveil a hybrid variant of the current 2020 model, responding to the growing demand for hybrid vehicles globally.

Reports suggest that the hybrid version of the GV80 will feature a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with two electric motors, offering a blend of performance and efficiency.

Recent insights from ET News indicate that another Genesis model, the GV70, is also set to receive a similar hybrid powertrain setup, paving the way for the brand’s foray into electrification.

Genesis had previously outlined its commitment to transitioning to an all-electric lineup by 2030, marking a significant shift towards sustainable mobility.

The decision to delay the release of the electric-only GV80 replacement is attributed to current market dynamics, with a temporary slowdown in EV demand and a surge in interest for hybrid vehicles, particularly in the US market.

Official details regarding Genesis’ hybrid strategy are expected to be finalized in the coming month, as the brand navigates the evolving automotive landscape.

While Genesis had initially planned to skip hybrid offerings in favor of electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, the shift towards introducing hybrid models reflects a strategic response to changing consumer preferences.

This move aligns with broader industry trends, as other luxury brands like Porsche, Audi, and Volvo have also embraced hybrid technology to cater to diverse customer needs.

With the automotive landscape evolving rapidly, Genesis’ decision to introduce hybrid variants signals a proactive approach in catering to the evolving demands of the market.
