Girl Stabbed in London Theater District
A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing an 11-year-old girl in the heart of London’s theater district. The shocking incident happened on a busy Monday morning in Leicester Square.
The man, identified as Ioan Pintaru, is accused of grabbing the girl, putting her in a headlock, and stabbing her eight times. Prosecutors noted that she suffered serious wounds to her face, shoulder, wrist, and neck.
The little girl was taken to the hospital and underwent treatment, including plastic surgery, for her injuries. Thankfully, her wounds were deemed serious but not life-threatening.
Witnesses at the scene jumped into action, with one shop employee recalling hearing a scream before rushing to help. Abdullah, a security guard, said he quickly tried to save the child by taking the knife from Pintaru.
Although initial reports suggested that the girl’s mother was also injured, police clarified that any blood on her was actually from her daughter and she sustained no injuries herself.
Pintaru, a 32-year-old Romanian national with no fixed address, was detained after the incident. He appeared in court facing charges, while the victim remains in the hospital recovering.
Authorities have not revealed a motive for the attack, but they confirmed it is not being treated as a terrorism-related case. The incident has heightened concerns as the UK faces rising violence during anti-immigrant protests across several cities.
