The Golden State Warriors made multiple failed attempts to trade for Paul George from the Los Angeles Clippers before the star player opted for unrestricted free agency.

Reports from The Athletic revealed that the Warriors put forth various trade offers involving players like Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and future draft picks in their bid to acquire George.

The Warriors were ready to extend George a new max contract, but his decision to enter free agency derailed any potential trade scenarios.

Paul George, a nine-time All-Star, chose to hit free agency by declining his $48.7 million player option, sparking substantial interest among contending teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.

The ongoing negotiations between the Clippers and George for a contract extension have hit challenges, with the player pushing for a max deal similar to the one awarded to Kawhi Leonard.

Clippers president Lawrence Frank expressed the team’s desire to retain George, citing financial considerations under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Warriors, led by GM Mike Dunleavy Jr, had been open to trading some of their promising young talents but deemed it necessary for the deal to significantly enhance the team’s future.

With George now heading to free agency, Golden State’s focus shifts to Chris Paul and the impending free agency of Klay Thompson.
