Australia-based hospitality group Good Group Australia has announced the closure of its renowned restaurants Botswana Butchery and White + Wong’s, impacting the Australian dining scene.

Operating two branches of Botswana Butchery in Sydney and Melbourne, alongside White + Wong’s locations in central Sydney and Chadstone, the group’s voluntary administration on March 31 sent shockwaves through the industry.

New Zealand Herald reported that while three Botswana Butchery establishments will remain operational in Canberra, Sydney, and Melbourne for assessment, the White + Wong’s outlets have ceased trading.

Appointed administrators Andrew Sallway and Duncan Clubb from insolvency firm BDO Australia highlighted an urgent need to evaluate the company’s financial standing and explore restructuring or potential sale options.

In a bid to expand its presence, Good Group Australia ventured into the Australian market with its high-end dining concepts following the success of its New Zealand originals.

Known for its extravagant offerings, such as a 1.6-kilogram wagyu tomahawk coated in gold leaf at a price of NZD$546 per person, the closures mark a significant shift in the culinary landscape.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the group’s operations in New Zealand remain unaffected, retaining the essence and legacy of Botswana Butchery and White + Wong’s in their home country.
