Google has unveiled its latest mobile lineup, introducing not just one, but two variants of its flagship phone: the Google Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL. This move mirrors what Apple has been doing for years, splitting its annual iPhone releases into Pro and non-Pro versions.

Launching alongside the standard Pixel 9, the new Pro models share a lot of similarities. However, there are a few big differences that might catch your attention. The Pixel 9 Pro is a bit smaller, while the 9 Pro XL offers a larger display and a beefier battery.

The pricing starts at £999 for the Pixel 9 Pro with 128GB of storage, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL starts at £1,099 for the same capacity. Both phones are powered by the new Google Tensor G4 chip, and they come with 16GB of RAM.

The Pixel 9 Pro sports a 6.3-inch OLED display, while the Pro XL features a larger 6.8-inch display. Both displays support a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. You’ll also notice they are well-protected with Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Camera lovers will be pleased to know that both models feature the same impressive camera setup: a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a telephoto lens. The front camera is boosted to 42MP, ensuring high-quality selfies.

Battery life has also seen a boost with the Pro XL’s 5,060mAh battery compared to the Pro’s 4,700mAh. Both models retain the same internal specifications and receive seven years of OS and security updates, making them solid long-term choices for users.

While the Pixel 9 Pro is more compact, making it easier to handle, some users might find the new pricing structure a bit tricky. The base model is priced the same as last year’s Pixel 8 Pro, but with fewer features. The sales pitch of more choices could make shopping for a new smartphone more confusing than ever.

In addition to these new phones, Google also launched the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, making waves as the company’s first foldable phone available in India. With its unique features, the foldable phone is set to further broaden Google’s smartphone offerings.
