Government Libraries in Uttar Pradesh Going Digital on World Book Day 2024
Government libraries across the state of Uttar Pradesh are gearing up for a digital transformation on the occasion of World Book Day 2024. The introduction of the E-Granthalaya software will revolutionize the way readers access books, making over 5 lakh books available at the click of a button.
In a significant move towards promoting literacy and ease of access to books, the NITI Aayog initiative has facilitated the digital cataloging of books in government libraries. Varanasi, known for its rich literary history, has already uploaded over 24,000 books online, setting the path for other libraries throughout the state.
The implementation of the E-Granthalaya software will enable readers to search for their desired books by title, author, or other specific details. This digital platform aims to streamline the book retrieval process, saving readers time and increasing their exposure to a diverse range of literary works.
The ambitious project targets to upload the database of 5 lakh books housed in government libraries across Uttar Pradesh onto the software in the first phase. With the aim to launch the digital library platform post-elections, the initiative highlights the commitment to leveraging technology for educational advancement.
Officials anticipate completing the uploading of book catalogs onto the E-Granthalaya software for all government libraries within one to two months. By June and July, readers are expected to access the extensive collection of books online, further enhancing their reading experience and expanding their knowledge horizon.
