Grease Star Susan Buckner Passes Away at 72, Leaving Behind a Rich Legacy
Susan Buckner, known for her role as Patty Simcox in the iconic movie ‘Grease,’ passed away at the age of 72 surrounded by loved ones in Miami on May 2.
Born on January 28, 1952, in Seattle, Washington, Buckner started her career with notable appearances in various shows and groups like The Dean Martin Show’s Golddiggers, Fantasy, and Buckner and Pratt.
Her portrayal of Patty Simcox, the spirited cheerleader in ‘Grease,’ alongside Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, and Stockard Channing, earned her enduring recognition.
Grease, released in 1978, became a culture-defining movie of its era, with Buckner’s role as Simcox leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
Following her success in ‘Grease,’ Buckner continued with appearances in television shows like The Love Boat, B.J and the Bear, and The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.
She further showcased her talent in films such as Wes Craven’s ‘Deadly Blessing’ and ‘Police Academy 6: City Under Siege’ before transitioning to teaching and directing children’s theater productions.
Buckner’s legacy extended beyond the screen as she dedicated her later years to guiding young performers at Pinecrest Elementary School and leading dance classes at Body and Soul Gym in Coral Gables, Florida.
Throughout her career, Buckner’s remarkable journey included being crowned Miss Washington in 1971, representing her state in the Miss America pageant, and performing as a synchronized swimmer on ‘The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.’
In honor of Buckner’s memory, the family has requested donations to be made to Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
