Haiti Dominates Sint Maarten to Secure Gold Cup Spot and Promotion in CONCACAF Nations League
MIAMI – In the latest round of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League, Haiti secured a commanding 8-0 victory over Sint Maarten, maintaining their perfect record and securing a place in the 2025 Gold Cup. The match, held at Estadio Centroamericano de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico, also guaranteed Haiti’s promotion to League A of the tournament.
Haiti’s performance was bolstered by standout contributions from Frantzdy Pierrot, who achieved a hat trick, and Duckens Nazon, who scored twice. Christopher Attys, Markhus Lacroix, and Mondy Prunier also added to the scoreline in a dominant display from the Haitian side.
The victory against Sint Maarten was particularly significant for the team, who dedicated the win to their teammate Méchack Jérôme. Jérôme, a key defender for the national team, is currently recovering from severe burns sustained in a fire caused by a gas explosion at his home on October 31. «This victory is for Méchack,» explained forward Nazon, emphasizing the team’s unity and determination.
With this result, Haiti has solidified their spot at the top of Group C with 15 points, scoring 26 goals in five matches while conceding none. They will face Puerto Rico in the final match of their League B campaign, slated for Monday, November 18, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
In other matches, Grenada achieved a 4-0 victory against Saint Lucia in Group B of League B, held at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao. Jermaine Francis, Regan Charles-Cook, Trevon Williams, and Myles Hippolyte were the scorers for Grenada, who have now secured at least a third-place finish to avoid relegation.
Also in Group B, Curaçao secured a 5-0 win over Saint Martin, maintaining their lead thanks to Jearl Margaritha’s four-goal performance. Juninho Bacuna also converted a penalty, following a red card for Belony Dumas. Curaçao now leads their group by one point over Saint Lucia, with the two set to face off in a decisive match on Monday.
In Puerto Rico, the host nation defeated Aruba 5-1, marking the 400th match in Nations League history. Goalscorers included Ricardo Rivera, Noeh Hernandez, Darren Rios, Jaden Servania, and Alec Díaz. Puerto Rico is currently second in Group C as they seek a spot in the Gold Cup preliminaries.
