Halle Berry Inspires Young Girls in Charleston
On August 14, 2024, a special event took place at Piedmont Elementary School in Charleston. Award-winning actress Halle Berry, known for her roles in films like ‘Monster’s Ball,’ joined U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito to talk with 21 fifth-grade girls about overcoming challenges and believing in themselves.
During the gathering, Berry shared her personal story of being bullied in fifth grade. She emphasized how important it is for young girls to know that their dreams are achievable, no matter how big they may seem. ‘When I was a child, I thought my acting dreams were too big. Nobody came into my classroom to tell me I could be whatever I wanted to be,’ she said. Berry encouraged the students not to leave the classroom without remembering that anything is possible.
Senator Capito, who has been running the Girls Rise Up initiative since 2015, aims to empower young women by focusing on education, physical fitness, and self-confidence. This initiative has welcomed other inspiring guests in the past, like astronaut Peggy Whitson and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
Capito and Berry hope that their words will resonate with the young girls and motivate them to pursue their passions and stand up for themselves in challenging situations.
