The Indian men’s hockey team has done it again! They clinched a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, beating Spain 2-1. This victory marks another proud moment for India, following their bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics last time around. It’s the first time since 1972 that India has secured back-to-back medals in hockey at the Olympics.

After a tough loss to Germany in the semi-finals, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed his regrets over not capturing the gold. He acknowledged the historical legacy of hockey in India and asked fans for their continued support. Harmanpreet said, ‘We wanted to win gold this time after the bronze in Tokyo. We were good enough for gold, but fate was not on our side.’

Harmanpreet was the star of the match, scoring both goals for India. The team had to battle back after trailing 1-0 when Spain’s Marc Miralles converted a penalty stroke. Harmanpreet found the net twice from penalty corners, turning the game around in India’s favor with goals in the 29th and 33rd minutes.

The match was significant for veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who played his last international game. Sreejesh made a series of incredible saves throughout the match, keeping Spain at bay despite them earning numerous penalty corners.

Throughout the bronze medal match, Spain put India under pressure, especially in the first half. However, India’s resilience shone through, and they held on for the win, adding to the country’s impressive tally of Olympic hockey medals.
