Historic Moment as Freddie Freeman’s World Series Grand Slam Ball Goes to Auction
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The baseball world is abuzz with excitement as the ball from Freddie Freeman‘s historic walk-off grand slam in the World Series is set to hit the auction block. The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman achieved this remarkable feat during Game 1 against the New York Yankees on October 25, 2024. The Dodgers triumphed in the game with a score of 6-3, ultimately winning the World Series in five games.
Freeman, making history with the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history, hit Nestor Cortes‘s first pitch 413 feet into right-field. «That’s as good as it gets right there,» Freeman remarked following the game. The event was celebrated by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as possibly the greatest baseball moment he has witnessed.
The ball, caught by young Zachary Ruderman from Los Angeles, added to the moment’s lore. Initially under the guise of leaving school early to get his braces removed, the fifth-grader found himself at Dodger Stadium witnessing history. «Our family hopes the baseball will be displayed in Dodgers Stadium so all Dodgers and baseball fans can view a very special piece of history for the City of Los Angeles,» the Ruderman family stated.
SCP Auctions will conduct the auction from December 4 to December 14, with expectations that Freeman’s grand slam ball will fetch a hefty price. David Kohler, company president, speculated the ball is «easily worth seven figures.» This follows the auction of another high-value sporting collectible this year, Shohei Ohtani’s 50th home run ball, which also set records.
The sale of these balls not only highlights rare athletic achievements but also reflects their immense value in the sports collectible market. As anticipation builds, baseball enthusiasts and collectors worldwide keenly await the outcome of the auction.
