House Explosion Rocks Knox County Neighborhood, Prompts Numerous 911 Calls
An explosion in a Knox County neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon led to numerous 911 calls from concerned residents, though no injuries were reported, officials confirmed. The blast occurred in the Choto area, specifically in the 1700 block of Blue Water Way, and resulted in a significant debris field while damaging a nearby property, according to Rural Metro Fire.
«It was a huge explosion in the house behind me. It’s destroyed and some of it’s on fire. It just happened,» reported the first caller at 1:03 p.m. The dispatcher promptly forwarded this call to the fire department, as similar reports inundated emergency lines in quick succession.
Residents described the incident with shock, with one noting, «A house literally just blew up and it’s in flames. It’s across the lake from me.» The scale of the explosion was underscored by the number of reports from local inhabitants, with one caller stating, «My entire house shook when it happened.»
The 1700 block of Blue Water Way, where the explosion occurred, witnessed debris scattering up to 150 yards wide. Another neighbor indicated there were only four houses on the street and expressed uncertainty about the presence of individuals inside the affected property.
A witness not residing in the immediate vicinity but situated at Cove Park reported hearing a «big explosion noise» and observed «black smoke coming up into the sky.» By 1:10 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to the scene and were informed about the incident through a total of 12 emergency calls received by Knox County 911.
As of the latest reports, the cause of the explosion continues to be under investigation by authorities.
