Huge Crashes at Le Mans 24 Hours: Vista AF Corse Ferrari and BMW Hypercar Involved
The 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours took a dramatic turn as two significant crashes shook up the event. The first incident involved the #54 Vista AF Corse Ferrari, driven by Thomas Flohr, at the Dunlop Chicane during the LMGT3 class. Under braking, Flohr lost control of the Ferrari leading to a substantial impact with the barriers.
Following the crash, a slow zone was imposed to allow for repairs to the damaged barrier and recovery of the badly damaged #54 Vista AF Corse Ferrari. The incident occurred after the Ferrari had completed 30 laps around the Circuit de la Sarthe, adding an element of unpredictability to the race.
Minutes later, another crash unfolded, this time involving Robin Frijns in the BMW Hypercar. Frijns found trouble in the final corners of the circuit, compounding the race’s intensity and challenges.
Changing weather conditions played a role in the challenging driving conditions, with a mix of dry surfaces and a sudden rain shower. Some drivers took the risk of remaining on slick tires, further adding complexity to their strategies.
Currently, the #83 AF Corse Hypercar leads the overall standings of the Le Mans 24 Hours, showcasing the endurance and skill required to navigate through the twists and turns of this iconic race.
