Hull City Sack Liam Rosenior After Missing Playoffs on Final Day
Hull City has made the decision to part ways with head coach Liam Rosenior following their narrow miss of a playoff spot on the final day of the Championship season. Rosenior, who took over the managerial role at the MKM Stadium in November 2022, was recently granted a new three-year contract in December 2023 that would have secured his position at the club until 2026.
The final day showdown saw Plymouth Argyle secure a 1-0 victory over Hull, a result that not only preserved Plymouth’s Championship status but also ended Hull City’s hopes of clinching a playoff spot in the table.
Acun İlcalı, the chairman and owner of Hull City, expressed the difficulty of the decision to part ways with Liam Rosenior, mentioning the need to prioritize the long-term vision of the club over personal sentiments. Despite the progress made during Rosenior’s tenure, it became apparent that the visions for the future were not aligned, leading to the club opting for a change in leadership.
The news of Rosenior’s departure comes after Hull finished in seventh place in the Championship, missing out on the playoffs by a mere three points. Despite hopes of building on this season’s performance, inconsistencies at home, with only two wins since the start of 2024, played a significant role in the decision.
Rosenior, who had expressed a desire to help the team return stronger next season, was shortlisted for the Championship manager of the season award alongside Kieran McKenna and Daniel Farke, showcasing the impact he had during his time at Hull City.
Having taken the helm with Hull hovering just above the relegation zone in the 2022/23 season, Rosenior guided the team to a 15th place finish last season, marking notable progress for the club during his tenure.
The boxing world is abuzz as the highly anticipated clash between and for the undisputed world heavyweight championship is set to take place on Saturday, May 18, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office.
