Hunter Biden Faces Tax Charges
There’s a lot of attention on Hunter Biden these days as he’s set to face a federal tax case in Los Angeles. Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is accused of not paying over $1.4 million in taxes. The case is scheduled to go to trial next month on various tax-related charges, which include three felony counts and six misdemeanors.
The indictment claims that Hunter, who is 54 and lives in Malibu, has been living the high life, spending huge amounts of money instead of settling his tax bills. It alleges that between 2016 and late 2020, he was spending his money on things like drugs, escorts, luxury hotels, and fancy cars.
U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi, who was appointed by Donald Trump, is overseeing the trial. This week, Hunter’s legal team argued that the special counsel who is prosecuting him shouldn’t have been appointed, but that argument was rejected by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Hunter’s attorneys have claimed that these charges are a result of political pressure and stated that he has already paid back his owed taxes along with some fines. They mentioned that Hunter is not expected to be at the hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
Adding to his legal troubles, Hunter Biden was also found guilty earlier this year in a separate case tied to a gun purchase. He admitted to lying on a form when he claimed he wasn’t using drugs, despite struggling with addiction at that time. His sentencing for that case is set for November 13, just after the presidential election.
The indictment describes Hunter as a well-educated individual, having graduated from Georgetown and Yale. He has had various roles in business, including working for a private equity fund where he reportedly made millions. The legal documents outline that in addition to these business interests, he was also employed by a large law firm.
During his struggles, Hunter has expressed that he simply forgot to pay his taxes due to his battle with addiction.
