Hurricane Beryl Impacts Mexican Consular Agencies and Travel in Quintana Roo
As Hurricane Beryl approaches the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, the Government of Mexico has issued various warnings affecting the region. The warnings include a Hurricane Warning for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula from Puerto Costa Maya to Cancun, as well as a Tropical Storm Warning for other parts of the region.
Due to the impending impact of Hurricane Beryl, the U.S. Consular Agencies in Cancun and Playa del Carmen will be closed on Friday, July 5, 2024. Services relating to passports and notarial services will not be available during this period. The agencies are expected to resume operations on July 8, 2024.
Travelers in the region, particularly those with flights to and from airports in places like Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum, and Merida, should be prepared for potential delays or cancellations as the hurricane approaches. Ferries operating between Cozumel and the mainland may also be affected.
In light of the situation, individuals are advised to be aware of shelter information provided by relevant authorities to ensure safety and preparedness during Hurricane Beryl. This includes knowing evacuation routes and designated shelters in the area.
For U.S. citizens requiring assistance or information during this time, it is recommended to reach out to the Embassy for guidance and support.
