Indian 2 Box Office Collection Surpasses Expectations Despite Mixed Reviews
The much-awaited release of ‘Indian 2‘, directed by Shankar and starring the iconic Kamal Haasan, has taken the box office by storm, surpassing expectations on its opening day. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the sequel to the 1996 cult vigilante drama ‘Indian’ managed to rake in an impressive ₹25.6 crore in its first day collections.
This massive opening day performance includes a substantial ₹16.5 crore from the Tamil market, ₹7.9 crore from Telugu audiences, and an additional ₹1.2 crore from the Hindi version of the film. Released as ‘Bharateeyudu 2’ in Telugu and ‘Hindustani 2’ in Hindi, ‘Indian 2’ has proven to be a much-anticipated spectacle for fans of the franchise.
‘Indian 2’ faced stiff competition at the box office, particularly from the recently released ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ directed by Nag Ashwin, featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone. The presence of Kamal Haasan as the chief antagonist Supreme Yaskin has added to the intrigue surrounding the sequel.
For director Shankar, the sequel marks a significant comeback, reuniting with the late writer Sujatha’s absence since 2008. The duo had delivered numerous hits together, with ‘Indian’, ‘Enthiran’, ‘Mudhalvan’, ‘Boys‘, and ‘Shivaji: The Boss’ being some of their notable collaborations.
In ‘Indian 2’, Kamal Haasan’s character Senapathy, fondly known as ‘Indian Thatha’, returns to combat corruption using the ancient Indian martial art form of ‘varma kalai’. While the original film featured music by A R Rahman, the sequel boasts a soundtrack composed by Anirudh, adding a fresh dimension to the narrative.
With a star-studded cast that includes Siddharth, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, and the late Nedumudi Venu, ‘Indian 2’ has managed to captivate audiences with its larger-than-life visuals and gripping storyline despite facing a few bumps along the way.
