An Indian court has remanded Ajay Gupta in custody for the next two weeks following allegations of coercion in a high-profile case. Ajay Gupta, the elder of the Gupta brothers known for their ties to former South African President Jacob Zuma, was arrested alongside his brother-in-law, Anil Gupta, after a building contractor’s suicide linked to their alleged pressure tactics.

Reports from India indicate that Ajay and Anil appeared before a court, with the judiciary deciding to detain them for 14 days as investigations proceed. Ajay Gupta, specifically, oversaw the extensive business interests of the Gupta family during their time in South Africa, marked by controversial relationships with political figures.

In South Africa, Ajay’s brothers, Rajesh and Atul Gupta, remain subjects of Interpol‘s Red Notice, awaiting trial if apprehended and extradited back to the country. Notably, Ajay Gupta is not currently sought after by South African authorities.

Anil Gupta, on the other hand, made headlines for hosting a lavish wedding at Sun City years ago, where guests arrived in a passenger plane at a South African Air Force base without proper authorization, sparking public outrage and scrutiny.
