Indian 2 Opens Strong at the Box Office Despite Mixed Reviews
The much-anticipated sequel to the cult classic ‘Indian’ opened on July 12, directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 saw a strong start at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews.

The storyline of the sequel brings back Kamal Haasan as Senapathy aka ‘Indian Thatha’ fighting corruption using the ancient martial art form of ‘varma kalai’. A character also played by Kamal Haasan, Supreme Yaskin, has been given more prominence this time around.
Director Shankar, known for his collaboration with late writer Sujatha in delivering hits like ‘Enthiran’, ‘Mudhalvan’, ‘Boys‘, and ‘Shivaji: The Boss’, marks his comeback with ‘Indian 2’ after a period of creative transition.
The music for the original ‘Indian’ was composed by A R Rahman, while Anirudh took the charge for the sequel. Interestingly, the film faces a tough competition with Nag Ashwin‘s pan-Indian epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ and Sudha Kongara‘s ‘Sarfira‘ starring Akshay Kumar.
Despite facing competition, ‘Indian 2’ managed to rake in ₹25.6 crore on its opening day, with strong regional earnings in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi markets.
