Indian Stock Market Closed for Eid al-Adha 2024 Celebrations
Indian equity markets, including the BSE and NSE, will remain closed today in observance of Eid al-Adha (Bakri Id). This closure extends to all segments, such as equity, derivatives, and SLB as a mark of respect for the occasion.
Commodity trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) will have a momentary pause during the morning session but will resume later in the evening from 5:00 PM to 11:55 PM.
After a positive session last Friday, with gains in the auto, consumer durable, and financial sector stocks, the BSE Sensex closed at 76,992.77, up 181.87 points, while the Nifty 50 ended at 23,465.60, gaining 66.70 points. Notably, the Nifty 50 hit a record high of 23,490.40 during the trading session.
The Nifty Midcap 100 surged 1.05%, and the Nifty SmallCap 100 rose 0.80%, outperforming the major indices. This rally was supported by broader market positivity, with various sectors contributing to the upward movement.
Looking ahead, the Indian stock exchange is scheduled to resume trading on Tuesday, June 18, post the Eid al-Adha celebrations. The commodity markets will also return to their normal trading schedules after the festive break.
