Intensified Search for Missing British Teenager in Tenerife Enters Seventh Day
A week-long search operation for the missing 19-year-old British teenager, Jay Slater from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, continues in Tenerife. Jay went missing after attending the NRG music festival on the Spanish island and has not been heard of since contacting a friend for help.
Search teams intensified efforts on the seventh day, focusing on outbuildings near the location of Jay’s last phone signal in Rural de Teno National Park. Paul Arnott, a mountaineer from Bedfordshire, joined the search describing it as challenging due to the vast terrain.
Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, made emotional pleas for his return, stating the need for intensified search efforts. A fundraising page was set up to support the search operation, which has garnered over £28,000 in donations. The community in Oswaldtwistle has expressed deep concern for Jay’s well-being during this period.
Friends revealed that Jay had left the festival with two men he met, heading towards Masca in north-west Tenerife. Specialist search teams including police, rescue dogs, and firefighters scoured the mountainous regions and valleys, focusing on areas around Masca where Jay was last seen.
Despite the challenges of the rugged terrain and the difficulty of the search efforts, rescue teams remained optimistic about finding Jay alive. The search has expanded to cover a vast area of the valley, with rumours and speculation circulating online about Jay’s disappearance.
Debbie Duncan expressed concerns about the impact of social media speculation on the search operation and called for British police assistance. The Guardia Civil in Tenerife confirmed the ongoing search operation but declined to provide further details on the investigation.
As the search for Jay Slater enters its second week, family, friends, and volunteers remain determined to find him. The tight-knit community in Oswaldtwistle continues to pray for Jay’s safe return, hoping for a breakthrough in the search efforts in the coming days.
