In an action-packed night in Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami managed to edge out Toronto FC 4-3 and secure a spot in the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup. Although Lionel Messi was missing from the lineup, his former Barcelona teammate, Jordi Alba, stepped up big time with four assists.

Paraguayan player Matias Rojas stole the show by scoring two goals, with others coming from Diego Gomez and Luis Suarez who found the net in a thrilling match. Fans were treated to a lively spectacle while a smiling Messi watched from the stands.

Despite the victory, Inter Miami‘s defensive play raised some eyebrows. Toronto’s Lorenzo Insigne made the most of their mistakes, converting two penalties that kept the match close, leaving Miami with only a slim 3-2 lead at halftime.

Things got tricky for Miami when defender Héctor David Martínez received a red card in the first half, leaving the team with just 10 men. Fortunately, a key foul outside of the box meant Toronto could not capitalize on another penalty opportunity.

Miami’s firepower upfront was impressive, especially with quick goals coming in early minutes—Rojas struck first in the third minute. They built their lead with additional goals, but had to withstand a late scare when a scoring attempt by Toronto was ruled an own goal by Miami’s Noah Allen.

As the tournament heats up, Miami will be looking to sharpen their gameplay ahead of their next match against the winner of the upcoming encounter between Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City.
