Iran has vehemently dismissed recent claims made by United States media outlets suggesting that the country was involved in a plot to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani asserted that Iran firmly denies any connection to the alleged assassination plans and instead focuses on pursuing legal action against Trump for his role in ordering the killing of senior military official Qassem Soleimani in 2020.

CNN reported, citing unnamed U.S. officials, that intelligence agencies had received information about a potential Iranian threat on Trump’s life, leading to heightened security measures for the former president. However, this threat was reportedly unrelated to an incident in Pennsylvania where a shooter targeted Trump.

Iran is resolute in its stance, with Kanaani stating that the country rejects any accusations of involvement in the reported armed attack on Trump, deeming such claims as politically motivated and baseless. Instead, Iran aims to pursue legal actions against Trump for his direct involvement in Soleimani’s assassination.

The killing of Soleimani by a U.S. drone in Baghdad in 2020 has long been a point of contention, with Iran vowing to seek justice for what it deems a targeted assassination. Amid fears of potential Iranian retaliation, other U.S. officials like Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, and Robert O’Brien have also maintained heightened security details.

In response to the recent reports, the U.S. National Security Council and Secret Service confirmed that any potential threats to Trump’s life are being taken seriously as a matter of national security. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security has remained silent on the alleged Iranian threat.

The controversy over the alleged assassination plot comes as the Secret Service faces scrutiny over the Butler County shooting incident, where questions have been raised about security protocols after an assailant fired at Trump from a rooftop. President Joe Biden has ordered an independent review of the agency’s handling of the situation.
