Irish Western ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ Sees Rising Star Aoife Condon Star Opposite Liam Neeson
Aoife Condon, fresh off a BAFTA win and an Oscar nomination for her role in Martin McDonagh’s film ‘Banshees,’ has returned to Ireland to star in Robert Lorenz’s Irish Western ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ alongside veteran actor Liam Neeson.
Set in 1970s Ireland during the Troubles, the film follows Condon as a ruthless and profane IRA gang leader seeking refuge in rural Donegal after a deadly pub bombing. She faces off against Colin Meaney, a village mobster posing as a widow and secondhand book dealer but secretly a violent hitman.
Condon, speaking from her farm near Seattle, explains her portrayal of the menacing character, inspired by Begbie from ‘Trainspotting,’ and the thrill of acting opposite Neeson for the first time.
Following the success of ‘Banshees,’ Condon has been juggling multiple high-profile projects. She recently filmed for Joseph Kosinski’s Formula One drama for Apple TV+ in Abu Dhabi with A-listers like Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem.
Additionally, Condon will feature in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ with Jude Law and is set to start filming another feature film soon.
Amidst the busy schedule, Condon emphasizes her need for nature and time with her horses, reflecting on the awards season frenzy she experienced post ‘Banshees.’
