Jake Quickenden Defends Wife Sophie Following Gender Reveal Backlash
Jake Quickenden has come forward to defend his wife, Sophie, after she appeared to express disappointment during their recent gender reveal video. The couple has two sons, Leo, who is three years old, and Freddie, Sophie’s ten-year-old son from a previous relationship.
In the viral video, Sophie immediately asked, «Where are all the girls at?» upon learning the gender of their unborn baby, which sparked some backlash on social media. During an appearance on ITV‘s Lorraine, Jake described the moment as «really fun» and indicated that their reaction was blown out of proportion.
Jake, who identifies as a «boy dad» having grown up with two brothers, shared his thoughts on the significance of the moment. He noted that Sophie might have been hopeful for a girl, given that she already has two boys, which could have contributed to her initial reaction. According to Jake, Sophie expressed her wishes for the birth experience and envisioning moments like picking a wedding dress.
Addressing public scrutiny regarding Sophie’s reaction, Jake stated, «People are always gonna have an opinion. Sophie and myself are never not grateful. I cannot wait to be a dad again to another beautiful little boy, as long as he’s healthy and everything goes alright with Soph.» He acknowledged the emotions that often accompany gender reveals, particularly for parents expecting another child of the same sex.
Furthermore, he praised Sophie for her honesty in sharing her feelings about the reveal. Jake remarked, «It was quite brave of Soph to admit that maybe she did feel a certain way. People are entitled to their opinions, but that doesn’t change our happiness for our growing family.» He added that after a brief moment of disappointment, Sophie quickly embraced the joy of welcoming another boy into their lives.
