James Harden Surpasses Ray Allen in NBA’s All-Time 3-Point List
James Harden, the prominent guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, achieved a significant milestone on Sunday by surpassing Ray Allen and securing the second spot on the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) career 3-point list. Harden’s achievement came during a game against the Utah Jazz held at the Intuit Dome, where he successfully made two 3-pointers to tally 2,975 career 3-point shots, surpassing Allen’s previous record of 2,973.
«Unbelievable accomplishment,» Harden commented on the milestone. He expressed his commitment to hard work, describing it as a testament to his continuous efforts throughout his career. «As I get older and just chip away at an unbelievable career, [I] start to accomplish things like that. So I don’t ever want to take it for granted,» he added, hoping to inspire young athletes pursuing professional basketball careers.
Despite his remarkable achievement, Harden acknowledged the near-impossibility of catching up to current record-holder Stephen Curry, a player renowned for revolutionizing the game with his 3-point shooting ability. «I’m one of the most confident guys that we have in this league. But no. I probably won’t catch Steph,» Harden conceded. He emphasized the unique skill set and playing style of Curry, which he believes will make the record difficult to break. «He can shoot the s— out the ball,» Harden remarked admiringly.
Ty Lue, the head coach for the Clippers, praised Harden for his versatility in evolving as a player. «To see what he’s accomplished being a 2 guard when he came into the league and then transitioned to a point guard his whole career … that’s a crazy accomplishment and I’m just happy for him,» Lue stated.
In a video posted by the Clippers, Kevin Durant, Harden’s former teammate from his days with Oklahoma City and Brooklyn, congratulated him. «Congrats on reaching an amazing accomplishment,» Durant said. «You inspire so many people around the world with how you play. You have been a great teammate, a great friend.»
Harden, who was drafted in the same 2009 class as Curry, reflects on the formative years with Oklahoma City as foundational to his work ethic and current success. He credits Durant and fellow teammate Russell Westbrook for setting an early standard for performance and professionalism when he first entered the league.
With Curry leading the all-time list with 3,782 career 3-pointers, and other notable players like Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, LeBron James, and Paul George trailing behind, it remains unlikely that Harden or any current players will surpass Curry’s record soon.
