Jay Shah Icc Chairman

Jay Shah, the current secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is poised to succeed Greg Barclay as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), as confirmed by various sources.

Greg Barclay recently informed the ICC Board that he would not run for a third term, setting the stage for Shah’s elevation. Barclay’s decision follows discussions regarding Shah’s intentions to take over the role in November.

Shah, with the backing of cricket boards from England and Australia, is expected to be appointed unanimously, marking a significant transition for the ICC. This will position him as the third Indian to hold this esteemed role.

The ICC has established a nomination process, where current directors must submit nominations for the next chair by August 27, 2024. If there are multiple candidates, an election will occur, with the successful candidate’s term commencing on December 1, 2024.

As per ICC regulations, the election requires simple majority support, with nine votes needed out of the 16 voting members. Shah’s favorable standing among these members enhances his chances of becoming the new chairman.

Shah, aged 35, will become the youngest individual to assume the position in ICC’s history. Currently, he has one additional year left in his term as BCCI secretary before entering a mandatory cooling-off period.

This anticipated change marks a notable evolution in international cricket leadership, placing Shah at the forefront of a major sports governance role.
