Jennifer Garner Gets Back in Shape for Elektra Cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine
Jennifer Garner has made a stunning return as Elektra in the latest film, Deadpool & Wolverine. This marks her first time stepping back into the role in almost two decades, and fans are excited to see what she’s been up to.
Garner revealed on Instagram how she got back into superhero shape for her cameo. She was chatting with Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy while filming The Adam Project when they came up with the idea for her to reprise the role.
“They gave each other this look that can communicate a lot, almost like nuclear codes,” Garner said, showcasing the strong creative bond between the two men.
To prepare for her role, Garner admitted that she hadn’t touched Elektra’s sais since 2004. While she was fit, she knew it wasn’t quite the superhero level of fitness required. So, she amped up her training with her original stunt double, Shauna Duggins, working with personal trainers and hitting the gym hard.
The training regime was intense, including daily sessions, boxing three times a week, and lots of workouts with Peloton’s Becs Gentry. Garner shared that she even had fun with her sai training, joking about trying to convince her kids that she was secretly a ninja.
Garner originally took on the role of Elektra back in 2003’s Daredevil, starring alongside her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Although that movie and the follow-up, Elektra, didn’t perform well at the box office, Garner is thrilled to have her character return in such a big way.
She expressed gratitude towards Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds, acknowledging that they saw something in Elektra that she hadn’t realized needed closure. Alongside a few other familiar superhero faces, like Wesley Snipes and Channing Tatum, Garner felt like she was part of something truly special.
“Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together—truly like a dream,” she reminisced about the experience.
