Jesse Ventura Calls Out Trump Over Military Service
Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura didn’t hold back during his recent appearance on CNN with Laura Coates. He took aim at former President Donald Trump, referring to him as a «rich white boy» and the «biggest draft dodger» from the Vietnam War.
Ventura, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, criticized Trump along with his running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, for their views on military service. Ventura remarked that Vance is failing to show respect for the United States Marine Corps, emphasizing that many great Marines deserve better.
In his remarks, Ventura pointed out that while he and his friends were sent off to serve, Trump had the means to avoid the draft. He stated, “Donald Trump was your typical white rich boy who didn’t have to serve in Vietnam ‘cause he could buy his way out of it.”
Trump’s deferment from military service during the Vietnam War has been a trending topic, especially after allegations surfaced suggesting he received medical leniency due to bone spurs—something his critics have questioned. Ventura stressed that genuine patriots serve, unlike those who find ways to bypass it for personal gain.
The relationship between Ventura and Trump has shifted over the years. While they had once expressed mutual respect, Ventura has publicly clarified his stance against Trump, stating he could never endorse him.
This discussion comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over military service among candidates, with both Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz facing attacks over their respective military backgrounds. Ventura condemned Vance’s recent remarks about Walz, calling them «despicable» and disrespectful to veterans.
