Jonathan Majors’ Assault and Defamation Lawsuit Dropped by Ex-Girlfriend
In a significant development, Grace Jabbari, the former girlfriend of actor Jonathan Majors, has withdrawn her federal lawsuit accusing him of assault and defamation. Deadline reported on Thursday that the lawsuit, initially filed in March 2024, was dropped in a New York federal court. The lawsuit had accused Majors of engaging in assaultive and defamatory acts against Jabbari.
Just weeks prior to Majors’ sentencing on two misdemeanor counts of reckless assault and harassment in December 2023, the civil complaint had been filed. The complaint detailed numerous incidents of alleged verbal and physical abuse throughout their relationship, which began during the filming of «Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania» in the UK. According to the complaint, these incidents included Majors allegedly shoving Jabbari into a shower wall and throwing objects in a fit of rage.
This legal action followed a tumultuous year for Majors, who was arrested on March 25, 2023, for domestic violence after an argument with Jabbari in New York City turned physical. The incident resulted in Majors’ conviction for reckless assault and harassment, though he was acquitted of more serious charges of intentional assault and aggravated harassment.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Majors has consistently denied any abusive behavior towards Jabbari. His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, countered that Jabbari had been the aggressor and that Majors had been subjected to racial bias by the NYPD. Chaudhry announced that Majors was preparing counterclaims against Jabbari, even as the lawsuit was withdrawn.
The legal drama has had significant professional repercussions for Majors. Once poised for a breakout year with roles in «Creed III» and upcoming Marvel projects, his career took a hit following the charges. Both his management and PR firms severed ties with him, and Marvel Studios decided to recast his role as Kang the Conqueror.
Despite these setbacks, Majors is seeing signs of a potential career revival. He was recently cast in the thriller «Merciless» by director Martin Villeneuve, and his previous project «Magazine Dreams» has been secured for release by Briarcliff Entertainment after being dropped by another studio.
Attorneys for both Jabbari and Majors filed a joint notice with the court stating the dismissal of all claims against Majors with prejudice. They declined to provide further comments on the matter.
