Josh Brolin Discusses Sobriety and Family in New Memoir
Josh Brolin, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in «No Country For Old Men» and «Dune,» is opening up about his journey to sobriety and familial relationships in his new memoir, «From Under the Truck.» In a recent interview, Brolin discussed a frank exchange with his stepmother, Barbra Streisand, that played a role in his decision to quit drinking.
Brolin recounted a time before he became sober when he visited the home of Streisand and his father, James Brolin, asking for a glass of wine. Streisand, known for her directness, responded with, «But aren’t you a drunk?» Brolin expressed his gratitude for such straightforward honesty, saying, «There’s nothing I ultimately appreciate more in anybody than an ability to just say it, regardless of the reaction.»
Brolin became sober in 2013 following a series of personal realizations about his life and the direction it was heading. In an interview with The Times, he reflected on a moment when he woke up outside his house after a night of heavy drinking, realizing he wanted to spend the latter half of his life sober. «I knew that was going to be the last time I drank,» Brolin stated, noting his subsequent commitment to rehabilitation programs and Alcoholics Anonymous.
The memoir not only delves into his battles with addiction but also his complex family dynamics, including his relationship with his late mother, Jane Cameron Agee. Brolin’s upbringing was marked by unconventional parenting methods that he believes shaped his current outlook on life and fatherhood.
«From Under the Truck» also explores Brolin’s acting career and personal reflections, promising insights into the actor’s perspective on life. Scheduled for release on November 19, the memoir is available for preorder at major retailers.
