The Junior Springboks and New Zealand U20 teams faced off in a thrilling match opening the U20 Rugby Championship, resulting in a 13-13 draw. The game took place amidst challenging conditions at the Sunshine Coast Stadium in Bokarina, Australia.

Despite a heavy downpour creating a waterlogged field and strong winds affecting play, both teams displayed remarkable determination and skill throughout the match. The Junior Boks, strong on defense and ball carrying, had to contend with New Zealand’s territorial advantage in the first half.

New Zealand’s Isaac Hutchison opened the scoring with a penalty goal, leading 3-0 at halftime. The Kiwis extended their lead in the second half through Stanley Solomon’s try, making it 8-0.

The Junior Boks fought back, with Tylor Sefoor converting a penalty and Joel Leotlela scoring a crucial try after a New Zealand mistake. Sefoor’s accurate kicking put South Africa ahead at 13-8 before a late New Zealand try by Frank Vaenuku leveled the scores at 13-13.

The match ended in a tense draw, demonstrating the competitive nature of the U20 Rugby Championship and setting the stage for more exciting clashes in the tournament.
