Kamala Harris Launches ‘Republicans for Harris’ Initiative
Vice President Kamala Harris is making some bold moves this election season. Over the weekend, her campaign rolled out a new effort called «Republicans for Harris» aimed at bringing in moderate Republicans who might not be on board with Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.
This initiative is like a mini-campaign within her larger campaign, and it’s got some big names attached to it. The strategy is to attract moderates, independents, and Republicans who were fans of Nikki Haley, who has recently switched her stance on voting for Trump.
The kick-off for this GOP outreach is happening in key states like Arizona, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania starting Monday. According to Austin Weatherford, the national director of Republican outreach for the Harris campaign, Trump’s extreme policies are driving many Republicans away. He believes that the party has lost touch with its traditional values.
As Harris prepares for a busy election season, especially after President Joe Biden decided to suspend his campaign, she’s already pulling in different groups of supporters under campaigns like «White Dudes for Harris» and «Young Republicans for Harris.»
Harris’s new program will also spotlight testimonials from Republicans publicly endorsing her. For instance, Christine Todd Whitman, a former New Jersey Governor, expressed in a statement that she used to be proud to be a Republican but believes Trump is not fit for office.
Bob Orr, a former state Supreme Court Justice from North Carolina, echoed this sentiment. He emphasized the urgent need for Republicans, former Republicans, and even independent voters who lean right to come together to support Harris and stand against Trump.
Various notable Republicans are joining this effort, including former members of Congress like Adam Kinzinger, who has been quite vocal against Trump. Kinzinger even expressed that he never thought he’d endorse a Democrat, but he believes Harris will protect democracy.
Other notable supporters include former Trump administration officials like Stephanie Grisham, who served as White House press secretary. She stated that while she may not agree with Harris on everything, she trusts that she will fight for freedom and represent the country honorably.
The push is particularly significant as it seeks to resonate with voters who are feeling alienated by Trump’s leadership. Both Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger, two Georgia Republicans known for standing strong during the 2020 election aftermath, have remained neutral, not backing Harris.
