The Kano State Government has leveled accusations against the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ussain Gumel, alleging that he is undermining the authority of Governor Abba Yusuf. The state Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, made the allegations during a press briefing in Kano. Dederi stated that there are ‘some enemies of the state’ seeking to disrupt law and order in a bid to destabilize the government.

In response to the accusations, the Commissioner of Police, Gumel, denied any disrespect towards the governor. He emphasized his commitment to upholding law and order in Kano. Dederi’s comments during the press conference were titled, ‘Who is plotting to cause anarchy in Kano?’ as he raised concerns about potential unrest orchestrated by ‘agents of destruction and rejected politicians’.

The allegations revolve around the ban on Eid-el Kabir festivities in Kano State, which the state police command reportedly issued without consulting the governor. Dederi expressed astonishment that the governor learned about the ban through social media, questioning the motives behind such actions.

Dederi also delved into the recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Kano regarding the deposition of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero. He expressed the state’s intention to appeal the ruling, disputing claims of Bayero’s fundamental rights being violated. Dederi highlighted that the state government had a duty to ensure security during Bayero’s stay at Gidan Nasarawa.

Responding to the allegations, the CP, Gumel, affirmed his loyalty to the governor and his commitment to maintaining peace in Kano State. He cited his efforts in combating criminal activities and expressed confidence in the public’s support. Gumel emphasized his positive track record and dedication to the safety of the community.

The dispute between the Kano State Government and the Police Commissioner sheds light on power struggles and governance dynamics in the state. As the situation unfolds, the public awaits further developments and clarifications on the allegations and counterclaims from both parties.
