Katie Moon Wins Silver in Women’s Pole Vault at the 2024 Olympics
Katie Moon added to Team USA‘s success on Tuesday with a silver medal in the women’s pole vault event at the Stade de France during the 2024 Olympic Games. Moon managed to vault an impressive 15 feet, 11 inches in her final successful attempt, which secured her a spot on the podium.
The gold medal went to Nina Kennedy from Australia, who cleared a height of 16 feet, ¾ inches. Meanwhile, the bronze medal was claimed by Canada‘s Alysha Newman. Moon’s performance was particularly strong, as she cleared her first four vaults without any failures, making her one of only two competitors to achieve that feat, alongside Angelica Moser from Switzerland.
This win marks a significant achievement for Moon, as it’s her second consecutive Olympic medal in the pole vault event. She previously won gold at the Tokyo Games with the same height of 16 feet, ¾ inches and even shared first place at the 2023 World Championship in Budapest, tying again with that height.
With this latest achievement, Moon has joined an elite group, becoming just the second woman in history to win multiple Olympic medals in pole vaulting. The first was Jennifer Suhr, who won silver at the 2008 Beijing Games and gold at the 2012 Games in London.
Moon’s silver medal also adds to Team USA’s historic success in women’s pole vault, bringing their total number of medals in this event to six, the most of any country.
