Keanu Reeves Signs One-Day Contract with Windsor Spitfires for Charity
On August 22, 2024, renowned actor Keanu Reeves made headlines by signing a one-day contract with the Ontario Hockey League‘s Windsor Spitfires. This unique event was organized to support the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Windsor-Essex branch.
Accompanying his signing, Reeves offered signed memorabilia that will be auctioned off, with all proceeds directed toward the mental health organization. Reeves was in Windsor to perform as the bassist for his band, Dogstar, at a local casino.
As a youth in Toronto, Reeves was a promising goaltender and nearly tried out for the Spitfires but had to step back due to an injury. Eventually, he veered toward acting, with his first notable role in the 1986 hockey film Youngblood, in which he portrayed a teenage goalie aspiring to join the NHL.
The Windsor Spitfires announced the signing as a joyful occasion for the team and the community. General Manager Bill Bowler expressed excitement about having Reeves on the roster, joking about the actor’s skills as a goalie from his cinematic past.
Spitfires captain Liam Greentree commented on the potential camaraderie within the team, highlighting Reeves’ background in music as an additional exciting factor. Details regarding the auction of signed jerseys and memorabilia are expected to be announced shortly by the team.
