Kendrick Lamar Teases New Album ‘GNX’ Amid Drake Feud
Renowned rapper Kendrick Lamar has stirred anticipation in the music world with the release of a minute-long teaser for his upcoming album titled «GNX.» The teaser, which dropped early Friday morning, hints at a continuation of the musical style present in his recent works, particularly his 2022 album «Mr. Morale and the High Steppers.» The new release comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding Lamar’s recent spat with fellow rapper Drake.
«The track incorporates a siren-like drone and Lamar’s multitracked vocals, resulting in a complex, chant-like melody,» reported Pitchfork, with the lyrics remaining somewhat elusive yet expected to be decipherable soon. The teaser has already captured the attention of fans and the industry alike, sparking discussions about the album’s potential impact.
Lamar has been unusually active this year, dropping four singles: «6:16 in L.A.,» «Euphoria,» «Meet the Grahams,» and «Not Like Us.» These releases have been marked by an aggressive tone, particularly towards Canadian rapper Drake. The antagonism reportedly stems from Drake’s lyrics comparing himself, Lamar, and J. Cole as equals, an assertion that has evidently riled Lamar.
The tensions between the two artists became noticeable after Lamar’s impactful guest verse alongside Future and Metro Boomin on the track «Like That,» which also dominated music charts earlier in the year. Lamar’s productive year has seen collaborations with a range of producers such as Sounwave, Jack Antonoff, the Alchemist, and Sean Momberger, showcasing his diverse approach to music production.
Recently, Lamar headlined a significant concert that featured an appearance by his early mentor, Dr. Dre. The show was divided into three distinct segments: the first showcasing West Coast artists under DJ Hed, the second under «Not Like Us» producer Mustard, and the final headline spot by Lamar himself.
