Kentucky Wildcats Show Promise in 3-Point Shooting with Addition of Koby Brea
Head coach Mark Pope of the University of Kentucky is optimistic about enhancing the Wildcats’ offense with improved 3-point shooting capabilities this season. The arrival of Koby Brea, a transfer from Dayton, has significantly strengthened the team’s position in this regard. Brea, who led the nation in 3-point shooting last year with a 48.9% success rate, is making waves in the current season with impressive statistics.
Brea has excelled in the early games of the season, maintaining an extraordinary 78.9% success rate from 3-point range, hitting 15 out of 19 attempts in four games. This remarkable performance sets him on a promising path to break the Wildcats’ single-season 3-point shooting record, held by Travis Ford at 52.9% since 1994.
In addition to his shooting prowess, Brea contributes significantly to the team’s overall performance. He is currently averaging five rebounds per game, highlighted by securing seven rebounds in a decisive 97-68 victory over Lipscomb. His ability to score multiple 3-pointers in each game and maintain double-digit points in three of the four matches illustrates his all-around game.
In a statement on Tuesday night, Brea commented on his approach to the game, «I’m just trying to show different parts of my game, whether it’s playmaking or rebounding. Just not trying to be one-dimensional.»
Coach Mark Pope acknowledged the diverse potential Brea brings, saying, «I would like him to grow in that sense about being able to probe more downhill, more confidently, more off-the-wall creating space. So, I would like him to continue to be a really dangerous, huge-energy cutter.» Pope emphasized that Brea’s exceptional shooting could lead to opportunities to exploit team defenses further by cutting, a skill area where increased development could be beneficial.
The Wildcats are set to face Jackson State on Friday night at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Fans can follow the game on the SEC Network+ or through the UK Sports Network‘s broadcast.
