Counting of votes in Kerala is underway, with early trends indicating that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in 17 out of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making significant progress in two seats, while the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is ahead in one seat.

Key figures like Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party are leading in their respective constituencies, such as Wayanad, where Gandhi is ahead of CPI’s Annie Raja. In Thiruvananthapuram, BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar is currently leading against Congress’s incumbent MP Shashi Tharoor.

The BJP candidate Suresh Gopi has gained a considerable lead in Thrissur, widening the gap with CPI’s V. S. Sunil Kumar. Meanwhile, Congress’s K. Muraleedharan is trailing behind in the same constituency.

The UDF has historically been dominant in Kerala, winning 19 seats in the 2019 General Elections. The LDF secured one seat in Alappuzha during that election.

The NDA, consisting of the BJP, made a concerted effort to establish its presence in Kerala during the 2024 elections. Candidates like V. Muraleedharan contested in Attingal and K. Surendran campaigned to appeal to the Christian community in the state.

According to the Axis My India-India Today exit polls, the UDF is predicted to retain 18 seats, with the BJP possibly winning 2-3 seats. The election in Kerala saw intense competition, notably in constituencies where high-profile candidates were contesting.
