Kieran Trippier, the 33-year-old defender for Newcastle United, has officially announced his retirement from international football.

Throughout his career, Trippier earned a total of 54 caps for the England national team. He is particularly remembered for scoring a remarkable free-kick during the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

Trippier also played in the Euro 2020 final against Italy and participated in the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024 tournament. He expressed his gratitude on Instagram, acknowledging that playing for his country has been one of the biggest honors of his life.

In his message, Trippier thanked former England manager Gareth Southgate and the coaching staff for the trust they placed in him. He also expressed appreciation to his teammates, highlighting the memorable achievements of reaching two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.

The announcement of Trippier’s retirement came just hours before interim England manager Lee Carsley was set to name his squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Despite his achievements, Trippier has not started a league match this season, as he faces competition from Newcastle’s first-choice right-back, Tino Livramento. In his farewell message, he wished the coaching staff and team all the best for the future.

Trippier’s international career began in 2017 under Gareth Southgate, who handed the full-back his debut in a friendly match against France, where he quickly made an impact.

Additionally, fellow footballer Jesús Navas, who represented Spain, has also announced his retirement, concluding a successful international career of 56 caps.
