Kim Jong Un’s Health Concerns Increase as Obesity Issues Arise
SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is reportedly facing some serious health issues linked to his weight. According to South Korea’s spy agency, Kim has regained weight and is struggling with obesity-related problems like high blood pressure and diabetes.
The 40-year-old leader, who stands around 5 feet 8 inches tall, has a family history of heart issues, as both his father and grandfather passed away due to heart-related conditions. In the past, there were reports that Kim had lost a significant amount of weight, but recent photos show he has put it back on.
During a closed-door briefing, the National Intelligence Service revealed that Kim is now back to an estimated weight of about 308 pounds and is considered at high risk for heart disease. The lawmakers were informed that he has been showing symptoms of high blood pressure and diabetes since he was in his early 30s.
Legislators like Lee Seong Kweun pointed out that Kim’s lifestyle choices—like drinking and smoking—along with stress, might be contributing to his obesity. They also noted that North Korean officials are seeking new medicines from abroad to help manage his health issues.
Kim’s health is a matter of concern not just for North Korea, but also for the international community. Many are keeping an eye on him, especially since he hasn’t publicly named a successor to take over the country’s advancing nuclear capabilities if anything were to happen to him.
The same briefing also raised speculation about Kim’s daughter, believed to be around 10 years old, who has been seen accompanying her father at various military events. The NIS suggested that she might be being prepared as a potential successor, but they also didn’t rule out that one of her siblings could step in instead.
