Mitchell Robinson‘s health concerns bring Isaiah Hartenstein’s future into focus, both for the ongoing playoff run and the long-term prospects resting on Jalen Brunson‘s shoulders.

Robinson, a defensive standout and top offensive rebounder when healthy, has been plagued by injuries, missing significant portions of recent playoff campaigns and regular-season games.

Hartenstein, having seized the starting role from Robinson this season, has showcased durability amid minor setbacks and is now eyeing an upcoming free agency with high expectations.

Not holding Hartenstein’s full Bird Rights puts a cap on the Knicks’ offer, which is expected to start at around $16.1 million, as they prepare to compete with potentially cap-space-rich teams like the Pistons, Sixers, and others for his services.

According to former NBA executive Bobby Marks, Hartenstein’s market value could hover around $15-20 million, but the impact of a strong playoff performance could hike that figure.

Heading into the matchup against the Pacers, Hartenstein has been averaging 10.7 points, displaying a reliable push shot/floater that has bolstered the Knicks’ offensive repertoire.

As the Knicks navigate Hartenstein’s impending free agency, they also must juggle the priorities of re-signing Anunoby and Achiuwa, both set to command substantial paydays in the current market.

A potential deal to retain all three centers would thrust the Knicks into luxury tax territory, necessitating prudent cap management under the new CBA regulations.

With Jericho Sims as a budget-friendly backup option, the Knicks face a pivotal decision regarding the future of their center rotation, with Hartenstein emerging as the most dependable choice amidst Robinson’s injury woes.
