Kylian Mbappé Omitted from France’s Paris Olympics Squad, Manager Leaves Door Open for Inclusion

Kylian Mbappé’s absence from France‘s provisional squad for the Paris Olympics raised eyebrows, as manager Thierry Henry opted out of including the star player but hinted at a potential change. Despite Mbappé’s desire to compete in the Games, he was not part of the initial 25-man list named by Henry.

While Warren Zaire-Emery and Bradley Barcola from PSG made the cut, veteran forward Alexandre Lacazette was also amongst those included in the squad. The decision not to include Mbappé was notable given his leading role in the sport.

With the list subject to evolution until July 3rd, Henry addressed the omission stating, «We don’t know what’s going to happen until July 3, but I have to give you a list that’s real,» reflecting the fluidity of the situation.

Notably, Mbappé’s potential involvement in the Euros further complicated his participation in the Olympics, as clubs have the final say on player releases for non-mandatory tournaments such as the Olympics.

Among the notable inclusions were Crystal Palace representatives Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise as part of the squad, adding depth to the team’s attacking options.

Henry’s decision reflects a balance between recognizing established stars like Lacazette and incorporating newer talents like Mateta and Olise, as France prepares to field a competitive lineup in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
