Lakshya Sen Makes History at Paris Olympics 2024
It’s an exciting time for Indian sports fans as Lakshya Sen has made history at the Paris Olympics 2024. On August 2, he secured a spot in the semi-finals of the men’s singles badminton event, becoming the first Indian male shuttler to reach this stage in Olympic history.
Sensational as always, Sen faced Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in a thrilling match, battling back after losing the first game. He won with scores of 19-21, 21-15, and 21-12, showcasing his incredible resilience and skill on the court.
This victory serves as a significant boost to India‘s medal hopes, especially after PV Sindhu and the doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were eliminated from their events earlier in the week.
After his match, Lakshya expressed his joy, saying, ‘I think this is something that I have ever dreamt of. It feels really good. There is a lot of work to do now, now it is the real test.’ He also emphasized the importance of recovery before his next match.
Looking ahead, he will face the winner of the highly anticipated match between Denmark‘s Viktor Axelsen and Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the semi-finals.
In addition to Lakshya’s victory, the Indian men’s hockey team also made headlines by defeating Australia 3-2, marking the first time India has beaten Australia in Olympic hockey since 1972.
It’s been an eventful Olympics for India, with two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker qualifying for the final in her third event, the 25m pistol, bringing some much-needed excitement to the Indian contingent.
In archery, Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara made it to the semi-finals in the mixed team event but faced tough competition and were eliminated from medal contention after losing to teams from Korea and the USA.
