Lawsuit Against Bethesda Prep School Allowed to Proceed Following Judge’s Ruling
A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge has ruled that a couple’s wrongful-death lawsuit against Bethesda‘s Landon School over their teenage son’s suicide can proceed, determining that Dawn and Scott Schnell had presented sufficient allegations that the private boys school could have foreseen the tragedy.
During the proceedings at the Montgomery County Circuit Court, the judge acknowledged the grief-stricken parents’ claims and agreed that there exists a plausible case against Landon School based on the events surrounding the untimely death of the Schnell’s son.
The lawsuit centers on the tragic suicide of the Schnell’s teenage son, a former student at Landon School, and the alleged failure of the school to intervene or provide adequate support and supervision which could have potentially prevented the devastating outcome.
Meanwhile, on July 4, an electrical fire at a Rockville women’s shelter run by Interfaith Works led to the displacement of approximately three dozen residents, due to damage to the shelter’s kitchen and bathroom areas, although fortunately, no injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
Montgomery County officials have been promptly addressing the rising concerns regarding hyperthermia, activating alerts to warn citizens when temperatures exceed 95 degrees. The action has been taken in light of the consecutive days of extreme heat, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
