Lazio Wins Season Opener Against Venezia
Lazio kicked off their Serie A season with a solid 3-1 win over newly promoted Venezia.
The match started with a surprise as Venezia’s Magnus Kofod Andersen scored just three minutes in, sending a ripple of shock through the Lazio fans.
However, Lazio quickly responded when Valentin Castellanos found the net only eight minutes later, capitalizing on a messy defensive error.
Right before halftime, captain Mattia Zaccagni converted a penalty to put Lazio ahead. Zaccagni has been quite impressive lately, directly contributing to 35 goals in Serie A since the 2021-22 season, trailing only Antonio Candreva.
Venezia fought hard in the second half, managing to take seven shots, but their hopes for a comeback were dashed when Giorgio Altare accidentally scored an own goal late in the match.
On the other hand, Lazio’s city rivals Roma struggled in their opener, settling for a goalless draw against Cagliari, where both teams hit the woodwork.
In another match, Udinese secured a draw against Bologna. Bologna, managed by Vincenzo Italiano in his first competitive game, took the lead with a penalty from Riccardo Orsolini. Orsolini made history by becoming one of the few Bologna players to score across seven Serie A seasons.
However, Udinese struck back with a goal from Lautaro Giannetti in the 68th minute, ensuring they left with a point.
