Leah Williamson Back In England Squad For Euro 2025 Qualifiers

Leah Williamson, the talented centre-back of Arsenal, has earned a spot back in the England squad for the Euro 2025 qualifiers against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

Williamson, who recently made her comeback for Arsenal after recovering from an ACL injury, could potentially earn her first cap since last April.

The 26-year-old was initially called up for friendlies in February but had to withdraw due to a minor hamstring issue.

Joining Williamson in the squad is diligent defender Millie Turner, who replaced her in the previous gathering.

England’s head coach, Sarina Wiegman, expressed her excitement at having Williamson back, emphasizing the importance of the player regaining match fitness.

England’s upcoming matches include facing Sweden at Wembley and the Republic of Ireland in Dublin as part of the Euro 2025 qualifiers.

The Lionesses are grouped with powerhouses such as France in the qualifiers, with the tournament scheduled for July in Switzerland.

Notably absent from the squad due to injury is Chelsea‘s Millie Bright, who continues her recovery process as she aims to return to action post the international break.

Among the players missing out on selection are Manchester United‘s Nikita Parris and Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones, who previously featured for the U-23s.

While the squad faces some omissions, it presents opportunities for talents like Manchester United’s Millie Turner and Tottenham‘s Grace Clinton to shine on the international stage.

Furthermore, concerns arise over player welfare with the announcement of Arsenal’s post-season friendly match against the A-League All Stars just before the international break.

England’s coach, Wiegman, expressed surprise at the scheduling, highlighting the challenges posed by congested calendars and lengthy travel distances.

The coach emphasized ongoing discussions with clubs regarding player well-being and scheduling adjustments to ensure optimal performance for the national team.
