Former LSU men’s basketball player, Josh Maravich, sadly passed away at the age of 42 in Covington.
Josh Maravich, the son of the legendary LSU and NBA star, Pistol Pete Maravich, was an integral part of the LSU men’s basketball program under coach John Brady from 2001 to 2005.
In a 2005 article in The Daily Reveille, Josh expressed his desire to make his father proud by being a walk-on player at LSU, understanding he wouldn’t be a star but cherishing the opportunity.
Before his time at LSU, Josh excelled in basketball at St. Paul’s in Covington, where he was named MVP of the District in his senior season after scoring over 1,000 points.
Josh, born in Metairie in 1982, is survived by his mother, Jackie Maravich McLachlan, stepfather James, and older brother Jaeson.
Fittingly, Josh was part of the ceremony in July 2022 for the unveiling of the statue honoring his father outside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, a design influenced by him and his brother.
Renowned sculptor Brian Hanlon, at the suggestion of Maravich’s sons, captured Pistol Pete in a unique fast break pose, commemorating his basketball legacy.
